School-Based Health Centers: Key Compliance and Operational Issues
This webinar is included in the
Health Center 360 Annual Compliance Training Subscription.
School-based health centers (SBHCs) play a critical role in expanding access to primary care, behavioral health, oral health and other essential services for children and adolescents. In particular, providing services directly in the school campus (either within the school or in a mobile unit parked on campus) enables health centers to reach families who may otherwise experience barriers accessing care. Additionally, the expenses may be lower than a typical new site operated out of a free-standing facility. Despite the benefits, operating within a school setting can create unique legal, operational, and compliance challenges as health centers navigate the intersection of healthcare requirements, educational systems, privacy laws, and funding obligations.
This webinar will explore key considerations for health centers that operate or partner with school-based health centers. Feldesman attorney Marcie Zakheim will address expectations in the new Scope of Project Policy Manual as well as prior HRSA guidance related to operation of SBHCs. Participants will discuss common compliance issues, including contracting arrangements, privacy and information sharing, billing and reimbursement for services provided, and strategies for maintaining strong partnerships with school districts while meeting federal health center requirements.
The on-demand version of this webinar will be available for purchase after the conclusion of the live webinar.
