When the COVID-19 pandemic started in 2020 and several states issued varying degrees of stay-at-home orders, many businesses were abruptly forced to transition to remote work arrangements overnight. As a result, employers’ efforts to implement remote work policies were largely an “on the job” (pun intended) learning experience, which slowly evolved in real-time by trial and error.
Over the past couple of years, as employees have returned to the conventional office workplace, businesses have accepted the post-COVID reality that maintaining some semblance of a remote work arrangement benefits the bottom line as it increases productivity and performance, reduces turnover (by providing workers with a better work-life balance), and lowers costs.
