(Recorded Webinar) Vote for Me: Political Activities

Duration: 75 minutes
Recorded on: 3/13/2024

This year is a big election year with U.S. Presidential and Congressional races as well as a number of state and local races.  When it comes to influencing federal and state legislation, Head Start grantees may find it difficult to navigate between prohibited activities and those that cannot be charged to federal funds. Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are prohibited from participating in certain political activities, but there are still many advocacy activities that tax-exempt organizations may engage in. Head Start agencies are also subject to additional restrictions. Now is a good time to review your policies and procedures that cover advocacy and political campaign activity to make sure you understand what you can and can't do this upcoming election season.

Knowing where the lines are and understanding practical strategies for documenting and demonstrating compliance over the long term will empower and protect your organization as you and your partners work to support your community.

In this webinar, we will explain what the rules are – and are not.
