Is De Minimis Right for You?

October 27, 2026

It has been over ten years since OMB introduced the de minimis rate as an alternative to the traditional negotiated indirect cost rate agreement or NICRA. Initially pegged at 10% of modified total direct cost (MTDC), today grantees and sub-grantees are allowed to set their rate at “up to” 15%. This webinar will discuss the current rules, options for recovery of indirect or overhead costs, and related issues.

The training will pay special attention to risks and benefits of moving to the de minimis rate and address topics such as:

  1. What you should consider in transitioning to a de minimis rate;
  2. Classification of direct versus indirect;
  3. What should be in your policies and procedures; and
  4. Where things can go wrong and how to mitigate risk.

The de minimis rate is an excellent option for recovering indirect costs and should be seriously considered by many organizations. This webinar will lay out the framework and significant issues to be aware of should your organization decide to move forward.

The on-demand version of this webinar will be available for purchase after the conclusion of the live webinar.
