Shifting Research Security Obligations

October 28, 2027

This webinar is part 4 of 4 in "The Compliant Campus" webinar series. To purchase the full series, click here.

Research institutions receiving more than $50 million annually in federal awards must formally establish, operate, and certify a compliant research security program (RSP). Core elements include compliance with cybersecurity standards, foreign travel security training and foreign trip reporting, mandatory research security training on an annual basis, export control training for certain technologies, and required training for senior and key personnel listed on federal grants.  The enforcement risk is real: Falsely certifying that an RSP exists is compliant may expose an entity to liability under the False Claims Act.

This webinar will discuss best practices utilized by institutions of higher education that have moved toward compliance with RSP standards and how colleges and universities can proactively evaluate their current research security programs and protocols and to determine whether they meet the RSP requirements.  Further, this webinar will offer projections on next steps, such as whether federal funding agencies may issue additional requirements for RSPs.

The on-demand version of this webinar will be available for purchase one week after the conclusion of the live webinar.
